How do you buy good flowers?

In general the best flowers are purchased at the source, from a flower farm or grower.  If you don't have access to either then the next best source would be a quality, local florist or floral designer.  Florists carry the highest quality flowers available from local growers and flower wholesalers.  Grocery store flowers are normally of lower quality.  You can often tell a lower quality flower as it may be dyed, or the flower heads may be smaller than normal.  When you see the bunches of flowers at the check out they are normally a lower grade flower, which is why they can sell them so cheap.  Avoid the bouquets on the discount rack that say "reduced for quick sale."  These are old bouquets that did not sell in the the floral department, they will not last long due to their age.
