Bloomstall flower boutique owner Michelle is often asked
"What is a normal amount to pay for flowers for a wedding?"
There are many factors involved in deciding on your wedding floral budget. It all depends on how much you want to spend on your entire wedding, and how important flowers are to you at your event. Keeping in mind that food may be important, but you probably won't look back fondly on photographs of the food from your wedding, except the cake of course. Flowers are an integral party of almost any wedding celebration. They enhance the entire experience and make for wonderful photography fodder.
A "normal amount" to spend on your wedding flowers is relative to how much you will be spending overall. A generally accepted rule in the wedding industry is 10% of your overall wedding budget. It's important to remember however that this only covers your basics and if you have an extended number of bridesmaids, table settings, or add-ons like arches the percentage will be higher.
Here is a rough breakdown of what each piece of a wedding flower package will cost when you hire a professional florist.
Bridal Bouquet $275-$400
Bridesmaid Bouquet $80-$150 each
Boutonniere $40-$50 each
Corsages for family members, etc. $65-$75 each
Table settings $75-$300 each
Alter flower arrangement $100-$300 each
Flower arch $300-$1500
Aisle/Pew markers $35-$65 each
These are rough estimates, and the higher prices points are for larger arrangements or settings or installations with large areas to cover.
Here is an example wedding floral budget based on the pricing above:
Bridal bouquet $300
Five bridesmaid's bouquets $500
Boutonnieres $315, assuming $45 per, five groomsman and two fathers
Corsages $140, assuming two mothers
Table settings $1000, assuming ten tables
Alter arrangement $300, assuming two arrangements
Aisle/Pew markers - $450, assuming ten
Flower arch $500
Delivery and installation $400
Strike/ removal of all flowers after event $250
TOTAL: $4155.00
It will help to keep a detailed list of all of the flowers you would like used at your wedding. Any florist that you ask to supply a quote will need to know the size of your wedding party, the number of tables at your reception, if you want alter flowers, a flower arch, etc... The more information you supply them with the better. With this information they will be able to supply you with a wedding floral quote.
